Address

Beachy Head Lighthouse was completed in 1902 after the cliff-top Belle Tout light proved vulnerable to mist and cliff erosion. Sir Thomas Matthews designed the new wave-washed tower, built from 3,660 tons of Cornish granite on a foundation below the cliffs. A temporary cableway lowered workers and stone to the site. The lighthouse was automated in 1983.
