Address

Blackness Castle projects into the Firth of Forth on a rocky promontory, its long defensive walls and towers creating a ship-like outline against the estuary. Shoreline views combine the fortress with tidal rock, water and an expansive sky, while the pier introduces a strong line into compositions. Low tide reveals extra foreground texture and changing weather can turn the same view from restrained and graphic to dramatic. Close views reward attention to heavy doors, stonework and narrow openings.
