Dean Village is a tightly packed collection of stone buildings, bridges and former mill structures arranged around the Water of Leith. The mix of elevations, rooflines and façades creates layered compositions, while the river adds reflections, movement and a natural foreground to the otherwise strongly architectural setting.

Narrow viewpoints along the water can compress the buildings into dense urban scenes, while bridges and elevated positions reveal more of the relationship between the village and the river below.
