Address

Digbeth is a former industrial quarter immediately east of Birmingham city centre, where railway arches, brick factories and workshops now sit alongside music venues, independent businesses and large areas of street art. The Custard Factory and surrounding streets provide a useful centre for exploring the district on foot.

Old loading bays, viaducts, painted shutters and new development create visual contrasts between industry and creative reuse. Weekday activity produces more functional, workaday scenes, while events and evenings bring larger crowds. Overcast conditions suit the brick and painted surfaces, whereas low sun cuts strong bands of light beneath the railway structures.
