Address

Doune Castle is a substantial late-medieval courtyard fortress dominated by a massive gatehouse tower, with a great hall, kitchen tower and high curtain walls. Its massive gatehouse, great hall and kitchen tower combined defence with the ceremonial requirements of a man who effectively governed Scotland. Earlier masonry may survive within the complex, while unfinished or vanished ranges leave the courtyard conspicuously incomplete.
