Duart Castle is a massive stone keep and walled courtyard standing on a rocky promontory above the sea. Its massive 14th-century keep occupies a rocky promontory controlling several important sea approaches. Abandoned and ruinous by the 18th century, the castle was bought back by Sir Fitzroy Maclean and extensively restored from 1911.
