Iona Abbey is a restored medieval monastery of stone church, cloisters and associated buildings on one of Britain's most important early Christian sites. Viking raids repeatedly affected the early community, and a Benedictine abbey was established around 1200. The surviving complex contains medieval fabric alongside extensive restoration, while early carved crosses recall Iona's earlier monastery.
