Kew Palace is a compact red-brick building whose symmetrical façade, tall windows and prominent chimneys give it a distinctive appearance among the surrounding gardens. The warm brickwork contrasts particularly well with greenery and softer planting, making the building suitable for both straightforward architectural studies and wider compositions incorporating the landscape.

Changes in season can significantly alter the setting, from fresh spring foliage and summer planting to autumn colour and bare winter trees. Details such as brick patterns, windows, doorways and rooflines also allow tighter compositions that concentrate on the building's proportions and textures rather than the complete façade.
