Rievaulx Abbey's tall arcaded ruins rise from a wooded valley of the River Rye in the North York Moors, among the most complete Cistercian remains in Britain. The abbey is often viewed from Rievaulx Terrace above, where eighteenth century temples frame the ruins through gaps in the trees.
