Address

Rochester Cathedral is a compact Norman and Gothic church with a richly carved Romanesque west doorway, massive nave arcades and a central tower. Bishop Gundulf began a new Norman cathedral around 1080, portions of whose crypt and masonry survive. Later fires and rebuilding introduced successive Romanesque and Gothic phases, while the richly carved west front preserves major 12th-century work.
