Scrabo Tower was erected in c1857 as a memorial to Charles Vane, 3rd Marquess of Londonderry. The design is associated with Charles Lanyon and his partner William Henry Lynn. Built in a deliberately rugged Scottish Baronial manner, the stone tower has a square main body, corner turrets, battlements and a taller central roof tower.
