Stokes Croft is a busy inner-city street and creative district north of central Bristol. Independent shops, music venues, community organisations and a changing collection of murals sit along a route used by buses, cyclists, students and residents, giving it a noticeably less polished character than the nearby centre.

Street art supplies colour and context, but the flow of people around Jamaica Street, Turbo Island and the main junctions creates the stronger documentary subject. Evening light, shop windows and wet roads can add depth, while daytime photography reveals the political posters, improvised details and contrasts produced by ongoing redevelopment.
