The Stones of Stenness are the surviving uprights of a Neolithic stone circle set within a broad earthwork henge. Four uprights survive from a ring that originally contained twelve stones, some reaching about six metres high. A rock-cut ditch once enclosed the circle, while a large central hearth and associated features indicate repeated ceremonial activity.
