Address

Urquhart Castle was a major medieval stronghold contested during the Wars of Independence and repeatedly raided by the Lords of the Isles. The Grants gained the barony in 1509 and developed the five-storey Grant Tower. Government troops last garrisoned the castle during the first Jacobite rising, blowing up its gatehouse on departure in 1692 to deny its reuse.
